Rich and Creamy Steak and Bacon Pasta

Pasta and bacon are weaknesses of mine. I love them! It is a rare occasion when I turn down an extra helping of either. While I really like steak, it is not a weakness until it is wrapped in bacon. Then it is a whole different story. All of these are good separately, how it could go wrong combining all of them to make a delicious creamy steak and bacon pasta dish? The answer is, it can’t!

My husband and I have never really celebrated Valentine’s on Valentine’s day. What is so romantic about waiting forever to get a table in a fancy restaurant full of people? It just has never been too appealing to us. So instead, because I love to cook, I make a special meal for us at home to celebrate. We will usually choose another day to go out to a nice place when there aren’t as many people.

While trying to decide what to make for our Valentines dinner this year I started thinking about making my usual go-to for a fancy meal, steak. That seemed too boring so I thought about making bacon wrapped steak. That just didn’t seem to cut it though. I didn’t want to think about all the other side dishes that would need to go with it to make it a decent and filling meal. So I finally came up with the answer of bacon and steak pasta. I could just throw together a quick salad and pop some rolls or breadsticks in the oven and I would have the perfect meal.

Now there are a few things that make a big difference when cooking this pasta. First, making this pasta takes a little more time than just cooking up a steak on the grill but it is so worth it! Taking the time to let the meat simmer makes the flavor fantastic and helps the steak be a little more tender. Second, is the bacon. In our house, we do not like soggy bacon. Do not let the bacon simmer with the steak, adding it later will keep the bacon crunchy. Last, when you are ready to add the cream take the pan off the heat and let it cool for a few minutes then add the cream slowly or it might curdle. Trust me, curdled pasta is kinda disgusting.

If you are like us and don’t like to go out for Valentine’s day this steak and bacon pasta is sure to be a winner for a nice romantic dinner at home. It is also great for dinner any day of the week!

1 lb. bacon, chopped

1 ½ lbs. steak, sliced thin

1 onion, chopped

1 can beef broth

1 TBS cooking sherry (apple cider will work as well)

3 tsp Worcestershire sauce

¼ tsp salt

¼ tsp pepper

¼ tsp garlic powder

¼ cup parmesan cheese

1 pint heavy cream

½ package linguine

Cook linguine according to package directions. Cook chopped bacon in a large skillet until crispy. Remove from skillet and save for later. Do not drain grease. Add steak and onion to hot grease and cook until onions and steak are browned. Add beef broth, cooking sherry, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer on low for 20-30 minutes or until nearly all the liquid is gone. Remove from heat. Stir in parmesan cheese and bacon. Slowly add cream. Return to low heat until hot. Do not boil. Add the linguine and stir to evenly coat. Enjoy!
